Age is Just a Number
As a person who doesn’t even like football, I always end up watching the big game. There was so much hype about Tom Brady breaking yet another record for being the oldest quarterback to ever play in a super bowl, but yet he’s ONLY 43. While I get football players put a huge toll on their bodies and health, it was surprising to hear a 43 year old being called old.
So while I pondered this waiting for at least one funny commercial to come on, I realized that age is what we make of it. Brady doesn’t let it hold him back. He broke more than one record this past weekend. But he has the mindset and health regimen to keep him going strong.
We can have that too. As I have a milestone birthday approaching later this year, I’ve caught myself going down the negative rabbit hole with statements like I’m not where I thought I would be in my life. Luckily I catch myself before I get too depressed. I start to reframe the statement to look at everything I’ve done so far and still get to work towards. Reframing the negative statements that aren’t even factual into something that serves us can really help us accept where we are in life, regardless of age.
Now I also mentioned Tom Brady had a health regimen and it is definitely not for someone just starting on their wellness journey, but there are some pretty interesting features to it. Here are a few:
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: He drinks 12-25 glasses of water a day. Now, he trains way more than most people do, but drinking 64 oz or water, or more, a day has profound health benefits. Staying hydrated with water improves brain function, increases energy, helps you feel full longer, may prevent some headaches, improves skin, and can aid in weight loss if you’re looking for that.
Avoids Inflammatory Foods: Everyone is built differently so foods will affect everyone differently. That said, some foods may cause more inflammation in the body than others. Some inflammatory foods include: sugar and high fructose corn syrup, certain oils (grapeseed, canola, sesame seed), refined carbs (anything with white flour and many breakfast cereals), processed deli meat, and nightshade vegetables (eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes), to name a few.
Gives in to Some Cravings: How good is eating healthy if you’re just going to stress about what you’re eating all the time? That stress alone is going to be worse than a piece of pizza or hamburger.
As with anything food and diet related, we are all built differently, so check with your health coach, doctor, and yourself on what fuels your body best. Just remember, how old you are doesn’t have to mean anything more than a number.
